What to Take to the Beach

Some people like to bring very little to the beach, preferring to travel light. Others like to take everything they might possibly need. No matter what camp you fall into – or somewhere in between – these are some essential things to take to the beach.

Beach Essentials

Beach essentials include:

Sunscreen to protect your skin from sunburn.

Water to avoid dehydration.

A towel to sit on and/or to dry off with.

Sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun.

A small amount of cash in case of emergency.

Other Useful Beach Gear

If you want to have more than the bare basics, I recommend the following…

A roomy, lightweight but sturdy bag.

Food and drinks beyond water.

A cooler to store the food and drinks.

Something to read.

A lightweight, folding beach chair.

An umbrella or some kind of shelter for shade.

Games and sand toys.

Water toys.

Depending on how much you’re bringing, and how many people to help carry it all, you may also want a beach buggy or wagon.

Beach Packing List

I love lists. They keep me from forgetting things. Before I go to the beach I make either a vacation packing list – including EVERYTHING I need for a beach vacation – or a beach packing list – if I’m only going for a day trip.

If you want to avoid leaving things behind, I recommend you make a list of the things you want to take to the beach too. It even saves money because you won’t have to buy anything at a higher price than you may pay near home, or that you don’t really need because you already own it.

To many joyful beach experiences!
