Kure Beach Activities

Check Out the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher

A great activity to do in Kure Beach, especially if you are on vacation with your family, is to visit the aquarium at Fort Fisher. You’ll find around 2,500 animals there. Plus, the staff will make sure that your visit is as interactive as possible. For instance, you can feed animals, watch presentations, and they even have touch tanks available.

Visit the Fort Fisher State Historic Site

If you are more into history than animals, you’ll love the Fort Fisher State Historic Site. Are you interested in Civil War history? This is where the largest land-sea battle was fought.

It’s also where a Confederate fort was because Port Wilmington was on a trading route that needed protection. Nowadays, you can still see about 10% of the original fort and also participate in annual events such as artillery demonstrations, reenactments, and more.

If you are a history buff, you shouldn’t miss this amazing place.

Experience the Outdoors

Since it’s a beach town, there are a lot of exciting outdoor activities here. For instance, you can swim, surf, and scuba dive; go snorkeling, sailing, kayaking, and boogie boarding; and pretty much engage in any water sport you desire.

For people who visit Kure Beach solely for its outdoorsy potential, you will be happy to know that the weather is definitely great as this will allow you to spend entire days exploring the water.

Participate in a Fishing Tournament

What better way to relax than to spend an entire holiday fishing? Apart from the fact that people already know Kure Beach because of its inshore and offshore fishing, it also hosts a number of tournaments for those who would like to compete with other fishing enthusiasts. One of them is held every single year during the month of October. It is called the Pleasure Island Surf Fishing Challenge. Moreover, you can’t miss the breathtaking scenery while fishing on Kure Beach Fishing Pier.
