A How to Guide to Surfing

I have a confession to make. I’ve always wanted to try surfing and never have. The closest I’ve come is boogie boarding and surf kayaking, both of which I love. As I write this I continue to wonder why I’ve never done something that I’ve always wanted to do. There are no good excuses, so I make this promise to you, my readers. The next time I’m at a beach where I can take surfing lessons, I’m going to try it. And I’ll let you all know how it goes.

Learn to Surf

First and foremost, take at least one lesson because…

  • Surfing can be dangerous.
  • Surfboards are expensive. Why buy equipment if you don’t know whether you’ll like the sport.

Even before you take your first lesson, watch the accompanying videos. They explain a variety of basic surfing techniques and give a good overview of the sport. Plus, if you’re really motivated you can practice some of the skills ahead of time. Won’t your friends and family be amazed when you catch the first wave like a pro!
