Gasparilla is the name of a barrier island in southwest Florida and the name of a major festival held every winter in Tampa, Florida.

Gasparilla Island

Gasparilla Island is approximately 100 miles from the city of Tampa, Florida – home of the Gasparilla Festival. “According to Florida folklore, Gasparilla Island gets its name from the legendary pirate captain José Gaspar, who had his base on the island and purportedly hid his fabulous treasure there.” (Wikipedia)

Little Gasparilla Island is a smaller barrier island located just north of Gasparilla Island. The two islands are separated by Gasparilla Pass. You can’t drive to Little Gasparilla Island. The only way to get there is by ferry from Placida Harbor or private boat.
